Healthy Aging into the Future

A community-based program for prevention and interventions using welfare technology for a healthy everyday life

This program aims to develop innovative models that use various technological solutions to improve the well-being and participation of elderly individuals in daily activities, which in turn can reduce the reliance on primary care and municipal care services.

By focusing on the needs of elderly individuals who are at risk or experiencing frailty, in collaboration with their caregivers and staff, the project seeks to implement effective interventions using digital technology.

Through five interconnected projects (Projects A-E), this interdisciplinary program will use both qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate how effective technology-based interventions are in various contexts. The projects will explore key research questions, such as examining the effects of preventive programs on frailty, integrating technology into primary care, and improving home care services through digital solutions.

The results could have a significant impact on addressing the challenges in Europe related to the increase in elderly individuals living with risk or frailty, which may lead to rising care and support costs. By using digital solutions, we aim to help elderly individuals maintain their independence while supporting caregivers and staff to deliver more effective and tailored care.

Collaboration between regional stakeholders, including caregivers and academic institutions, will ensure that the developed interventions are relevant and useful. By engaging elderly individuals and their relatives in the research process, the project will not only generate valuable insights but also promote a sense of involvement and self-determination among the target group. Ultimately, the project aims to contribute to a change in elderly care, where technology plays a central role in promoting well-being and independence.

This research programme is primarily funded by Forte - Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare and aims to develop innovative models that use different technology solutions to improve the well-being and participation of older people in everyday activities, thereby reducing dependency on primary and community care services.
